Pinstriping a Cadillac

Hand painted Pin Striping is a love and a challenge especially on 15 foot plus lines, I start off this job with no tape down the side of this red Cadillac and just could not keep a consistent distance from the body line.

To fix my problem
I used some green 1/4" painters tape, the adhesive of this tape will not stay on the car after you remove the tape.
Placing the tape line 1/4" higher then were I wanted to stripe the Cadillac, on both sides of the car, note before adding this guide line I made a couple reference points on the front and rear quarter panels to keep both sides symmetrical.

Once the tape was down the hand painted Pinstriping began

Shooting Pinstriping

Photographing Pinstriping or Paintings in general can sometimes be a challenge, there are layers and reflection that can hide the detail of your painting.
I was lucky enough to have access to a camera with a polarized lens, the lens is adjustable and takes out the glare and making the colors pop.

Below is a Pinstriping panel I painted in 2010, I had never be able to get good picture until now.

Health and Safety

This is not an Art post but one of importance.

Paint fumes are a very real danger and I do prefer not to wear a respirators and will always have a fan and door/window open when painting.

Respirators have advanced in the last 20 years sins I have been around the industry of painting there  are everything from half face respirators to full face with powered filters that are on a belt.

I personal us the 3M half face respirators but have a number of 3M GVP cartridges for sale on amazon as they do have a best before date and I will never use the all.

If you do not wear protective gear please do so, all the safety gear now fits great and why spend your weekends in the emergency when you can enjoy it at home!

Zebra Truck Paint Job

Super fun paint job over the last week, not totally Pinstriping, but Custom Paint just the same.

Paint a Zebra Car is now off my bucket list.

The design has function as well as great looks, there were a number of rust spots and rock chips hidden under the strips.

This was a very rejuvenating project and could not have been done without great customers!

Sammy Hagar T-Bucket

I had the opportunity to go to the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana and in one of the Lobbies is this 1926 Ford T-Bucket, own by Sammy Hagar.

Pinstriped flames down the sides, as well as accents front and back.

And a 58 Vett motor, it screams old school cool!

New DeWALT Jigsaw!!

For years I have been taking care of my old tools and thought if they work why replaces them, last month I bought a new DeWALT DW317K Jig Saw to replaces a 30 year old B&D my Mom bought when I was 10.

Well I should have bought one 20 years ago, I think I would have saved weeks of cutting time. The DeWALT DW317K Jig Saw  jigsaw is a dream to use (yes I'm name dropping and linking this to amazon). The DeWALT jigsaw has a variable speed trigger, tilting blade and quick blade release. No more flat head screw driver gouging into my fingers, while I try to change the blades.

Just awesome, I'm saving up for some more new DeWALT tools to replace the relics I'v been using for years!

My hope in buying some new tools will be a return in time saved, looking for feature like quick release and quick change.
