Detroit Autorama 2016

Motor City Auto Art

Last minute free time, for some great cars and pinstriping!

I'll be heading to Detroit Autorama for Saturday only, too many responsibilities at home.

Pinstripers are auctioning there panels for charity www.leaderdog.org so done miss it!

There is also a good read, (well I'll read it later) but please have a look at Detroit News article on the show.

Be There or Be Square!

Pinstriping a Cadillac

Hand painted Pin Striping is a love and a challenge especially on 15 foot plus lines, I start off this job with no tape down the side of this red Cadillac and just could not keep a consistent distance from the body line.

To fix my problem
I used some green 1/4" painters tape, the adhesive of this tape will not stay on the car after you remove the tape.
Placing the tape line 1/4" higher then were I wanted to stripe the Cadillac, on both sides of the car, note before adding this guide line I made a couple reference points on the front and rear quarter panels to keep both sides symmetrical.

Once the tape was down the hand painted Pinstriping began

Shooting Pinstriping

Photographing Pinstriping or Paintings in general can sometimes be a challenge, there are layers and reflection that can hide the detail of your painting.
I was lucky enough to have access to a camera with a polarized lens, the lens is adjustable and takes out the glare and making the colors pop.

Below is a Pinstriping panel I painted in 2010, I had never be able to get good picture until now.

Roadwarrior

I painted two more sales samples for The Roadwarrior Team they display these units at trade shows, below is a photo before I painted on the white road lines and for good measure my signature on the bottom ;)

Age is no longer a factor!

I've been slacking off on posting work and have been spend lots of time with my kids.

Meet a 2012 Mustang, owned by very interesting 72 year old gentalmen,  I had the pleasure of spending a couple hours in his company talked about his cars and sales career.

Celtic Knots

More hand painted sign.

 Pinstriping by Square

I have the opportunity to work in a local Irish pub,
Walsh's Snug in Newcastle.
I spend the night after hours painting the floor.
It was great fun and close to home!

Health and Safety

This is not an Art post but one of importance.

Paint fumes are a very real danger and I do prefer not to wear a respirators and will always have a fan and door/window open when painting.

Respirators have advanced in the last 20 years sins I have been around the industry of painting there  are everything from half face respirators to full face with powered filters that are on a belt.

I personal us the 3M half face respirators but have a number of 3M GVP cartridges for sale on amazon as they do have a best before date and I will never use the all.

If you do not wear protective gear please do so, all the safety gear now fits great and why spend your weekends in the emergency when you can enjoy it at home!

Zebra Truck Paint Job

Super fun paint job over the last week, not totally Pinstriping, but Custom Paint just the same.

Paint a Zebra Car is now off my bucket list.

The design has function as well as great looks, there were a number of rust spots and rock chips hidden under the strips.

This was a very rejuvenating project and could not have been done without great customers!

Carved Sign

This is one of many to come!

A test carve on a personal theme, one of reloading my own health and energy.

Hang tight more paint and metal,, coming soon!

RELOAD

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Enjoy a pint and company today.

Here attached is the Penelope Pitstop pinstripe panel finished and sold at Motorama this past weekend.

Old tool box

Here is a photo of my old tool box, it now holds brushes and Pinstriping supplies.

I did the Pinstriping on the front over seven years ago while working in a new pinstriping brush.

Winter Toque

Winter is here and it was time for a new toque, so in the season promotions, I'm promoting myself this year!

Sammy Hagar T-Bucket

I had the opportunity to go to the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana and in one of the Lobbies is this 1926 Ford T-Bucket, own by Sammy Hagar.

Pinstriped flames down the sides, as well as accents front and back.

And a 58 Vett motor, it screams old school cool!

Keep Practicing

Had a cover up done today!
Just a little reminder very time I look down to keep practicing!

VW Hall Table

Finish Pinstriping last weekend at Autofest and sold this weekend, BUT just realized I never took a photo of it finished :(

Practice, Practice, Practice

Not much of that has been going on around here just moved 12 days ago.

This SIGN 'pun intended' is from an old sign painting book Unkl Ian gave me.

New DeWALT Jigsaw!!

For years I have been taking care of my old tools and thought if they work why replaces them, last month I bought a new DeWALT DW317K Jig Saw to replaces a 30 year old B&D my Mom bought when I was 10.

Well I should have bought one 20 years ago, I think I would have saved weeks of cutting time. The DeWALT DW317K Jig Saw  jigsaw is a dream to use (yes I'm name dropping and linking this to amazon). The DeWALT jigsaw has a variable speed trigger, tilting blade and quick blade release. No more flat head screw driver gouging into my fingers, while I try to change the blades.

Just awesome, I'm saving up for some more new DeWALT tools to replace the relics I'v been using for years!

My hope in buying some new tools will be a return in time saved, looking for feature like quick release and quick change.

New Toy

Moving soon and got a new toy for when I setup shop, bought this Electrio Pounce machine to speed up the time it takes to make stencils.

Candy & Toys

Uturn cleaned up and striped for a slower moving location, hoping it will get noticed.
I cleaned it up by removing all the stickers and changed the mechs over to 25cent.
The green is to same colour as the company logo where its is going...
