Winter finally came the same day I installed the gilded sign, design and built by yours truly. 1-Shot paint, letters are 23k german gold leaf with black outlines and the trim is all recycled hardwood.

Solid Adhesion

Making sure these letters have had good adhesion has taken up more of my waking moments that I care to admit. After several test panels to make sure I could have a nice finish as well as good adhesion, I went with masking off the area where the raised lettering would be, coated out the sign board (MDO) ,removed the mask and then secured the letters to the sign, leaving a nice finish and rock solid letters.

Some New Weapons

I've been doing a lot of fill in with my good lettering brushes and had to replace one (expensive)... So I bought a set of mixed hair brushes 169's, Mack has made these a cost effective alternative to the all natural brushes and there not bad just did a hour of fill ins... More spring then the 189's great for the carved letters I've been painting.

These sign is my current work and nemesis, it's all in primer, four coats in total and has been a lot of fun. The raised letters are not glued down yet, name plates are removable and all lettering will be 23k Gold leaf. Posts flank the sides and the bottom is trimmed and detailed (not in the picture). As with all my work I have used re-purposed hardwood for all the trim. The letters are all CNC'd from HDU and the sign board is MDO, both have a 10 year warranty for indoor and outdoor use. So the sign will keep people's attention for a long time.

The notice has been sent out and Vintage Torque Fest will be in Maquoketa, Iowa May 4-5, 2012.
Last year I painted up one of the suppled panels and this year will be doing the same. Heres a sample of some of the fine art up for aution last year.

18th Annual Autofest Aug 26-28

I'll be pinstriping at the Autofest show, Saturday.

It's a great weekend long show starting Friday night with a Kickoff Party downtown Oshawa and then Saturday and Sunday will be held at Lakeview Park.

New this year is the Truck Sale from 10am - 3pm where participants can sale related item from the truck of there automobile in a designated area.

Pinstripers will be there all weekend long so please stop in and have something striped or just to say Hi.

Northeast ECM online artical 'Liebau offers artistic perspective on trucking'
Dustin Liebau of Bellevegas Pinstriping and Letter Supply put on the 'Panel Jam' at the 2011 Sterling Truck Show this past June 18th weekend. We all had a great time painting, talking with the people that attended the show and donated work to the Stirling and District Lions Club for there annual dinner and auction. Thanks again Dustin for the good times

On the weekend a sign I built and painted went up, made with all recycled materials. The owner had great feedback almost instantaneously as the sign replaced a cheap banner.

The origin of the blogs name I said early on I would divulge, here it is. It was born out of the mouth of babies. The name has many years invested in it, it has been cultivated, nurtured and loved. My Wife and I took 3 and 3/4 years of persistence, sadness, her pain and our joy to give birth to a little girl and boy, Twins indeed! A roving gang of wheeled bandits cruising the carpet for crackers. And the Boy worked to developed his vocabulary and this love for motorcycles always pointing at everyone he saw, once he could talk we thought he was saying 'Motorcycle Monkees' as he pointed at every motor bike he saw, he'd say it throughout the day and at every meal....

Then one day his voice and demands became unmistakably clear "More Chocolate Milk Please!" well holy crap not only did he like bikes, he loved chocolate milk too!

Its a CB650 seat and fits great. The seat is lower and shorter then the old CB550.

Looking for a laptop bag and I have always used army surplus bags and still have my old bag from grade school, but a laptop would not be secure in it so I have come a cross the M-51 ENGINEERS FIELD BAG and like it.

It has a large inner pocket and one for a laptop, pen, note pad and small pockets for the power converter. on the back is a map pocket and tool pockets with a bottom/side ziper and top flap. bottle pocket on the side as well. carry handle and strap...
what more can you ask for??

Side Tracked

Getting a little side tracked on the 550K.... We put in a concrete pad out front of the house [work out to 8x12 on paper], my wife dug the hole; she started while I was out of town for the day, I was at the Fleetwood Country Cruize-In . So I built the footings and the Brother in-law with help from my Wife poured the pad.

It's been a long time sins I saw one of these and in the last few weeks I have now seen them twice. First on a post in Jocket Journal (a good post on the Denver's Bikes and Family) and now...
In my garage after sending out a couple e-mails to people around Ontario selling Vintage bike parts.
I had all but given up and was ready to build my own, just needed the carb flanges that connected the air box to the carbs and I was set, that is how I found this AMEN air filter and man does it look good!

Picked up a set of 4-2 exhaust with side turn outs and collers/flanges for the bike this week through Do The Ton and SOHC4, now I have to work out my carb dilemma more on this to come.

On a side note it's been 13 years sins I'v have all my STUFF in one place, over the winter I moved all my boxes of things from my folks place to mine and with the help of my brother this weekend we brought the bike frame there too, so I can start get things done at night, as well as clear out old old stuff!

Durham Honda powerhouse BBQ

Drove past on my way to PA and they were having a BBQ, So I stopped in on my way back, the kids split a hamburger and I ordered a couple parts; rear tank rubber and the large carb seals.
There were a lot of nice bikes there and one thing that I noticed on the new two-tone Honda's the pinstripe was vinyl and it was painted right over top by both colours (what the Hell is that).
The parts counter was good to deal with, price was better then any I could found on the net and the Kids sat on some dirt bikes; I maybe in trouble as they loved it.
Two more things checked of 'the list' and the ability to properly install the fuel tank!

It all started

In Germany at the age of 13, my mother, brother(my identical twin James) and I, were visiting our moms family and birth place. It was a very cool trip, the Berlin wall was still up, we passed through no-mans-land on the train and it was the first time I drove a motorcycle by myself through the countryside. The bike was a green Simmons bike owned by my 3rd cousin Wolfgang (he even has a cool name) I can't remember the model but it was great fun and was over quick... My brother and cousin Barbara (Wolfgang's twin sister, fraternal) ran it up the garage wall, everyone was okay but I don't think my brother has driven a motorcycle since, he was pretty freaked out and went in to shock.

When I was 17 my step Dad, Bob (he will be referred to as Bob here on in) brought home two Honda's one was a red 450 and the other a 500 costume, both early 80's. 'The Deal' was if I fixed the 450 I could have the 500, so the next week the 450 was fixed and sold.
The 500 was mine in the all knowing words of Bob. I spent that winter fixing, painting and cleaning stuff off the 500. It had all kind of stuff on it 'I would never have put that on a bike!' (17 year old me said) I pulled of a luggage rack, cut down the front cowl, paint the cowl to match the rest of the bike and remove all things, I thought were not cool.

Of course I did not have a bike license or any real push to get one (I had no friends that road, remember I was 17) , so I wore a track around our huge back yard and it was sold the next year.

My love affair with motorcycles never ended, any chance I got the offer to 'try it out' or 'hop on' I would.

And this leads us to next time......
